In October of 1951, 27 year-old Marjorie Ramsey of Logan, West Virginia won a statewide US Defense Department Bond Selling Contest for schoolteachers. During the two-week contest, she sold $50,000 worth of defense bonds. This was at a time when teachers made way, way, way less than that (and many teachers today still do). If nothing else, you have to admire her for not spending all that money herself.
